OBJECTIVES
Computational methods have been playing crucial roles in diverse fields such as mechanical, civil electrical and electronic engineering. The Japan-China Symposium on Boundary Element Methods (1987, 1998, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998) and First Pan-Pacific Conference on Computational Engineering (PCCE93, 1993), held in Seoul Korea, have made substantial contribution on the computational methods. It is our great pleasure to announce that, following these successful conferences, the Asia-Pacific International Conference in Computational Methods in Engineering 2003 (ICOME2003) will be held in Sapporo to make hot discussion on recent development and exchange the latest ideas. One of the prior aims of this conference is to fusion the newest computational methods which have independently been developed in the computational mechanics and electromagnetism for co-evolution of both fields. Emphasis is also made on the application of the latest approaches to computational methods, such as knowledge-based technique, machine learning, soft computing, parallel and grid computation and Web-based distributed computation which will open the door to future computer aided design.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Papers are invited on the topics related to the above topics in computational engineering. Abstract of approximately 500 words in PDF format, or in plain text format when no equations and figures are included, should be submitted electronically to the symposium secretariat.

The abstract must not exceed two (2) pages of A4 sheet. Look at the symposium web page for a sample abstract. All the accepted papers will be published in a hard-cover book after the Symposium. Notification of acceptance: August 29, 2003
Deadline for final camera-ready manuscript: November 5, 2003
Conference: November 5-7, 2003

Please note that during the symposium only a soft-cover volume of abstracts will be available. The symposium book of selected papers will be published by Elsevier Science after the symposium. The instructions for authors concerning the final camera-ready manuscript will in due course be sent to those whose abstracts are accepted for presentation at the Symposium.

SYMPOSIUM LOCATION
The Symposium will be held at Sapporo Convention Center located near a subway station, 10 minutes distance from the city center. Sapporo is located in Hokkaido which is the northern large island and known for rich natural resources, beautiful cities, famous hot springs and a lot of delicious foods. You can access Sapporo by plane from Tokyo, with one and half hour flight. The 1972 Winter Olympic Games was held in this city.
